Why is preventive maintenance in pressure equipment important? Autoclaves

Preventive maintenance refers to regular maintenance at the specified intervals.

However, why is preventive maintenance so important for our autoclaves?

The correct operation and optimum performance of our autoclaves will depend on its maintenance. Correct maintenance at the specified intervals can guarantee major and costly faults that could affect your production.
Our motto is “better be safe than sorry” and this is why we plan and schedule maintenance for your unit before a real problem occurs. Likewise, we keep records of past inspections and of all service reports.
Autoclaves require special attention due to the risks associated with working with high-pressure equipment:

  • First, because they have been manufactured to work at high pressures and temperatures and improper operation or lack of maintenance could create serious risks.
  • Second, because an autoclave is designed to sterilise food and pharmaceutical products, which will be destined to direct human consumption. Any deviation to the correct use of the unit derived from its operation could cause injuries to the consumers using these products and, in a worst-case scenario, even death.

From Ferlo we want to make you aware that your autoclave is a team that demands permanent supervision and preventive maintenance.

IMPORTANT NOTE

An autoclave can operate 24-hours a day and 365 days a year, which is equivalent to 8,760 hours a year. The company’s production system cannot afford to have its units fail. Therefore, preventive maintenance if ESSENTIAL.

WHAT DOES THE AUTOCLAVE’S MAINTENANCE INVOLVE?

The main purpose of maintaining the autoclave is to ensure that its production rate remains unaltered. To achieve this, a systematic inspection will be carried out to detect and correct possible problems, aimed at preventing faults in the units before they occur.
There are two types of maintenance:

  1. Routine maintenance. This type of maintenance can be carried out by the staff working with the unit on a daily basis. It includes cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, etc.
  2. Maintenance that requires the presence of our technicians. In this case, there are different procedures. One of our technicians will inspect the machine to check for parts that need to be replaced, repairs, oil changes, program adjustments, etc. This type of maintenance will vary according to the type of operation and unit.
Our technician will take the necessary records of your autoclave during each inspection to check the useful life of each part and assess the applicable replacement frequency.
Ferlo carries out these procedures to ensure that technicians can anticipate to the time a part needs to be replaced and prevent problems.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Any unit that is not maintained on a regular basis can create a DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE work environment.

BENEFITS OF PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE:

Correct maintenance of the autoclave offers a series of important benefits:

  • Long working life of the unit.
